Fair Oaks Ranch Announces Exit from Drought Stage 1

The City of Fair Oaks Ranch is delighted to announce its exit from Drought Stage 1, marking a significant milestone in the city's ongoing water conservation efforts. Therefore, there will be no more surcharges or other drought-related restrictions at the 25,000-gallon threshold after over a year in an extended drought.

Since April 26, 2022, Fair Oaks Ranch has been in a state of heightened water conservation due to prolonged drought conditions. The collective efforts of residents, local businesses, and the Fair Oaks Ranch Utilities team have been instrumental in stewarding these water conservation efforts. Fair Oaks Ranch residents’ commitment to conserving water has played a vital role in mitigating the impact of the drought and ensuring the sustainable use and preservation of our precious water resources.

While the exit from Drought Stage 1 is a cause for celebration, it is crucial for residents to continue practicing responsible water usage. The City of Fair Oaks Ranch urges its community members to remain mindful of their water consumption to prevent a rapid return to Drought Stage 1. By embracing sustainable practices and conserving water wherever possible.

Residents can contribute to the long-term preservation of our water supply and stave off the return of drought restrictions by adhering to the year-round watering schedule. Watering should take place once a week between the hours of midnight and 10 a.m., as well as between 8 p.m. and midnight on designated days. By following these guidelines, we can optimize water efficiency and contribute to the sustainability of our community's water supply.

It is important to note that despite Fair Oaks Ranch's exit from Drought Stage 1, surrounding entities such as San Antonio Water System (SAWS) and the Trinity Glen Rose Groundwater Conservation District (TGRGCD) remain in Stage 2, while Boerne is still in Stage 1. Fair Oaks Ranch recognizes the need for continued collaboration in water conservation efforts across the region to safeguard our shared water resources effectively. The Fair Oaks Ranch City Council has reviewed and updated the City’s Drought Contingency Plan to better align with these conservation efforts. More details on the changes will be communicated to residents before they are expected to go into effect on August 1.

The City of Fair Oaks Ranch wants to thank residents, businesses, and our larger community for their commitment to water conservation. Together, we have achieved a significant milestone, demonstrated the power of collective action, and highlighted Fair Oaks Ranch's dedication to the responsible stewardship and preservation of our natural resources.
